Creating the Ideal Work Environment

As your business grows, so will your employee roster. As your employee roster grows, so will your need to keep your team happy, motivated, and engaged. Companies around the world have embraced the personal needs of their employees to generate greater productivity and higher morale.

Consider Google. Their offices hardly resemble offices at all. Gym memberships, on-site therapy, kayaking on a near-by lake, a pet-friendly attitude, and a game room provide their employees with 360 degrees of personal attention.

Closer to home, the Corus Entertainment building in Toronto boasts a huge slide as an alternative to the stairs, a foosball lounge, and a relaxed attitude to provide their employees with the stress-relief they need to do their jobs effectively.

Now, do these perks and amenities provide distraction? Absolutely. But they probably waste no more time than Facebook, Twitter, or social media do, and they do get people up and moving.

Does this mean that you have to install a 2-storey in your home office? No. You don't need to hire an RMT either, but having the restorative resources in place to help your employees make it through tough days is a good idea.

It can be something as simple as a Keurig or Tassimo machine to ensure that everyone gets the coffee they like, instituting a company-wide policy of casual days, or even starting an lunch hour dodge-ball or athletic team to let your team break free from the daily grind.

Your team is your greatest asset, so treat them well and let them return the favour in your bottom line.
